SHIRPHIE'S FAN ENCOUNTER
EXCLUSIVE - DO NOT REPRODUCE ANY PART OF THIS REPORT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!

On May 15th, 2007, I met Emily VanCamp outside the CW11 station's building in New York City. To one day be able to meet Emily has been my dream for the past five years and I feel very lucky to have gotten the chance to. This meeting never would have been possible if I did not find out she was going to be on their morning news show. She has such a great heart and is an extremely sweet and generous person.

Late the night before on the 14th, at about a quarter to midnight, I was looking around various websites for potential news on Emily and I found that she would be in New York the morning of Tuesday the 15th for an interview with the CW11. Had I not searched, I wouldn't have known or be typing this report now. After I posted the news on the main site, I decided that I would try and go see her the next morning. I wasn't even sure if I'd even run into her, but I thought I'd do it anyway. I mean, it couldn't hurt, right? So I told both my father and grandmother to wake me up at 5:30 AM (in case one of them forgot). When the time came, I woke up, got ready, and left my house a little after 6 AM. I arrived at the building by 6:50 AM and waited for Emily on the sidewalk.

There weren't that many people waiting, to be honest. Other than me, it was three other people. I wasn't even sure if they were waiting for Emily until this man asked a young woman standing near the doorway if she was waiting for her and she said yes. It turns out the man was with another friend and they were just there to get a ton of autographs. I think the girl must have been a good friend of Emily or something. Emily pulled up in a silver livery car at about 7:25 AM and the girl went over to the car. The two of them hugged when they saw each other, then the autograph seekers went up to Emily first and made her sign things. I said hi to her in the middle of this and she said hi back and asked how I was and I said good. Before she walked over I had taken out my Teen issue with Gregory and her on the cover from 2003 (which I brought along). When she saw it, she was like "Oh, my god!" (maybe because she was so young then?) While signing I told her my name and said that I ran Emily VanCamp Online. Her reaction to that was "Oh, my god! It's so great to meet you!" and leaned in to give me a big hug. It lasted for a few seconds then we let go. I wished her a happy belated birthday and she thanked me. Then, I said I thought she sounded a little sick. I don't really remember if she said it was her allergies or not. The girl said sorry, that they really had to go, so Emily smiled and began to turn around to go inside. I asked her if she was coming back outside and she said she was so I waited for another 25 minutes...

After awhile of waiting, I finally saw her approaching the doorway. She left through the side door, not the revolving one there. She looked up and saw me and said hi again. I said hi back, then I said, "You know when you once said if you could meet anyone dead or alive it'd be Audrey Hepburn?" She didn't hear me say that so she said, "Pardon?" and leaned in to hear me better. I repeated that question and then added, "Well, for me that person is you." She said with a big smile, "Really? Aww, that's so sweet!" She said she loved Audrey Hepburn and I said I knew that and I also knew My Fair Lady is/was her favorite movie. I then told her how much Everwood meant to me, and that I missed it. She said she missed it too. After that, I brought up the topic of the Everwood Book that was the brilliant genius of my online friend, Alexandra. I said I submitted an entry in that (while stumbling on my words, how embarrasing). She asked if I was a part of it and I said yes (I did promote the book on the site last year after all). She said she loved it and looked through the whole thing with her mom. I asked about Brothers & Sisters and how it was, and she said it's amazing but it'll never be Everwood. I nodded my head in agreement. I didn't want to take up too much of her time, so at that point I asked if she minded if I took a picture. She said no, of course she wouldn't. I handed my camera to the girl and she took the picture, then I asked if it worked and she said yes and showed us the picture, which Emily and I both looked at quickly. Emily then said to me, "Thank you so much for being so devoted to Everwood and all." I gushed a little bit. I told her I had to go to school, so she said, "Okay. Have fun at school. Bye!", while waving. I said bye and then turned around, smiled, and walked back to the subway station to go to school.

It was the happiest day of my life.
